Introductions
Hi folks, I’m Rene.
I’ve been here in the shadows of lazygeek ever since we came up with the idea of a combined geek blog because we were too lazy to blog individually (my previous record was about 2 posts per year). This was several months ago now, and after many wordpress reinstalls and lost backups, things are finally starting to take shape.
As far as the typical introduction stuff goes, I have lived in the Hawkes Bay for the past 15 or so years, attending school and polytechnic there before landing a job which will see me moving to Hamilton in the new year. I am (or will soon be) an apprentice electrician by trade. Now what is a sparky doing on a tech blog I hear you ask? Well I have been involved with geeky tech stuff since the age of about 13, and despite my passion for all the toys we geeks get to play with, I could not be convinced to make it a career move (at least for the moment).
My areas of interest, and topics I will no doubt be blogging about, include:
- GNU/Linux and Open Source/Free software – I have been using Linux and actively involved with my local Linux User Group (the Hawkes Bay LUG) for several years
- Mobile technology – Cellphones, smartphones, laptops, netbooks and anything that lets you take tech out of the office and into real life
- Entertainment – media PCs, Digital TV etc
